Getting Baptised

We are delighted that you are coming to us for baptism (also called christening) and we look forward to this special day for you. Baptism marks the beginning of a life-long journey with God, supported by the community of faith, as well as by godparents or sponsors.

If you are unsure about what is involved in a baptism service, here are links to some Church of England guides to baptism at the bottom of this page. If you want to discuss arrangements, please telephone the Parish Office on 01993 779 492 (Monday to Friday, 9am–1pm), or email the office.

There is no fee for a Baptism service. Baptisms normally take place during the Sunday morning Eucharist in each of our churches. We do not hold Baptisms during Lent or Advent.

What do I need to do

Please complete the application form below. We will then check the details and get back to you: consent is needed from each parent or guardian with parental responsibility for the child, as baptism cannot go ahead without this agreement.

Godparents’ full names

There are usually three or four godparents, who must themselves have been baptised. At least two should be of the same gender as the child. Please list 2 to 4 names, one per line.

Local connection

If you live outside the parishes of Witney or Minster Lovell, please tell us your qualifying connection, e.g. you worship at the church, or you were baptised or married here.
